The 94th Academy Awards ceremony (the Oscars) by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), boasted the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2021, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, U.S. on March 27, 2022.

After Chris Rock, while on stage to present the award for Best Documentary Feature, joked to Jada Pinkett Smith that he was looking forward to a sequel to G.I. Jane, in reference to her alopecia, Pinkett Smith’s husband Will Smith stood up from his seat near the stage, strode up to Rock and slapped him. After sitting back down, Smith shouted at Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth.” When Rock, who joked about Jada Pinkett Smith while hosting the Oscars in 2016, protested that it was just a “GI Jane” joke, Smith repeated the same line.
